The Jamaica Blue Mountains, which reach heights over 7,000 feet produce some of the world's most famous and sought after coffee. Because Jamaica is such a tiny country, relatively little Jamaican coffee is available each year. Sadly for the U.S., most of Blue MountainΓÇÖs yearly yield finds itΓÇÖs way to Japan. Consumers must be alert for phony "Blue Mountain" brands. Read your labelΓÇÖs carefully when looking for Jamaican coffee. (More "Jamaican" coffee is sold than is actually imported.) If you are fortunate enough to find the genuine article, you will find the taste is very mellow and sweet. Deliciously aromatic, it is an attractive bean; being painstakingly free of defects and usually of a bold, uniform size. There are two other popular grades available for export from Jamaica; perhaps not quite as perfect as Blue Mountain, but comparable, and a delightful cup of coffee none the less, High Mountain Supreme, and Prime Jamaican Washed.
